[лат. satelles (satellitis) — спутник, сообщник; лат. virus — яд]субвирусный агент, дефектный вирус, репликация которого тесно связана с размножением другого вирулентного штамма вируса (см. вирус-помощник); напр., С.в. некроза табака (STNV — satellite tobacco necrosis virus) для репликации нуждается в вирусе-помощнике (им является вирус некроза табака — TNV — tobacco necrosis virus). С.в. и вирус-помощник могут существенно отличаться друг от друга таксономически, содержать в геноме разные типы нуклеиновых кислот и иметь разные схемы репликации. Многие С.в. способны использовать структурные элементы нескольких вирусов-помощников. В группу С.в. входят одно- и двухцепочечные РНК- и ДНК-содержащие вирусы.Толковый биотехнологический словарь.
